Reek & Sage - R&S Side: 004 (Single)

When have Reek & Sage ever not made music strictly to soothe the soul? These R&S Sides have really been blowing their previous work out the water & those are classics at this point so I can only imagine what this upcoming record is to sound like. Their sound remains familiar but they still continue to expand on it & making it bigger than the last, whether that be the records themselves, which all have this sense of nostalgia to them, I personally like to call it future vintage, but even the cover art, which this time around, Reek actually doesn’t have the joint as he does on the previous three covers but you know damn well it’s probably in the vicinity. He’s never not blowing that good smoke & with these two records, we can surmise that, it’s all part of his self care routine.

On “Myself”, Reek delivers a hook that is far more complex than most artists entire songs. I just love me a wordy chorus & one that really pinpoints where I think a lot of us are at in our emotional journeys. He’s better off single, not that he hasn’t had fun experiencing all these different women, some good, some bad but now he’s at the point in his life & career that he just doesn’t have time to deal with the bullshit that comes with relationships, especially when he’s on his bullshit. Reek’s delivery comes out so smoothly, like exhaling that good weed, even the little things like the inflection on his voice when he says he’s handsome, he just sounds so comfortable in his own skin, that self love just bleeding through, causing him to be so not phased by anything that serves him no purpose. It’s not of his concern if people take issue with a man loving himself, that’s not something you see too often either & maybe that’s why they can’t stand it when he walks in looking & sounding as cool as he is.

You want something done, you gotta get it done yourself cause at the end of day, you’re the most reliable person you know & he knows this, he hasn’t let himself down yet & by the sound of it, he’s only to continue elevating in all aspects of his life. Sage’s production continues to be it’s own planet, his atmospheres are not of this stratosphere & while “Myself” had a familiar feel to it, “Do You Love Me” is just different, showing that he’s not afraid to experiment. Eastside Fish comes through with another infectious hook, one that proposes some questions that warrant answering. Reek is infatuated with this woman, the fuck if she got a man, he can take care of that easily. Whereas Reek is more of a heartthrob when it comes to the ladies, more of that smooth, kinda player, Fish is just straight pimpin’ these hoes, he’s so blunt about what his motives are. He’s simply just trying to fuck, not looking for anything serious so, it’s not his fault if they catch feelings, they knew what it was the second they started dealing with the Fish but yet they still allowed him to reel them in so that’s on them, sorry & shit!
